Back to Work – Loved My Vacation!

beef-ribs.jpgHi Ya’ll!

Just wanted to remind you we’re back on for this Saturday – tomorrow!

Jeff and I ended up touring the land of southern hospitality, fried chicken, bar BQ ribs, and fish frys. We visited Memphis, Eureka Springs, Bowling Green, and Tunica. All those cities, BTW, are in different states – Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Mississippi – respectively.

Just so you know I enjoyed the southern comfort foods – but in moderation – and actually ended up losing about five pounds. That’s probably because we did lots and lots of walking! Ahhh – the power of movement! And though we did enjoy the protein comfort foods – BBQ beef ribs, fried chicken, prime rib, fried fish, along with some mashed taters, biscuits, and gravy – we ALWAYS had salad, and hardly ever had dessert – except for once when we had some chocolate chip bar.

Walk, walk, walk. Well, that’s the scoop.

Tomorrow we’ll continue with the book we read last time, regarding how successful people who’ve earned their ideal physique have managed to stay fit. Great weight loss tips. And to top it all off, we’ll do a great hypnosis process!

Saturday Morning Weight Loss Meetings

secretary.jpgGood Morning Dear Reader!

Today is Saturday! Every Saturday morning, we meet. We are the Hypno-Lean group. We meet from 9:00 to noon. It’s the fastest three hours ever, because we are a fun, supportive bunch. Generally we start out by catching up with how our weeks have gone. Sometimes we’ve had struggles, but we try to leave the garbage at the door. No whining, no moaning, no giving up. Keeping our focus on progress. Acknowledging the results of our efforts.

Usually we have very positive reports: how much we’ve lost, how many times we’ve been to the gym, what hypnosis CD we’re currently listening to and how it’s making changes in our old habits.

Then we have a class: either about nutrition, or exercise motivation. For example, we may have a class on the importance of drinking water and how drinking 8-10 glasses benefits the weight loss process. Everyone has heard that when on a weight loss program, water is crucial, but no one ever tells us why! We think it’s important to know why.

I had one client say that her doctor always told her to drink a glass of water with lemon juice, but she never knew “why” so she didn’t do it. In our class about acidity / alkalinity she learned of the benefits, so she started doing it.

After our class, we get hypnotized to…well, whatever the class was on. So if the class was on water, we’ll get hypnotized to drink more water!

I must say, the hypnosis is the best part – we have the most advanced brainwave units available to get us into the alpha/theta state. People sometimes ask me, “What if I can’t be hypnotized?” I say, “Well, I’ve never met anyone yet who couldn’t be, and with our technology, you’re going down!” That’s what I tell them, and it’s the truth.

People also ask me, “What does hypnosis feel like?” it feels different for different people, but commonly, it’s a very relaxed, comfortable feeling. As if the mind is still awake, and the body is asleep. Some people will feel very light and floaty…while others feel very heavy, and limp, like a wet rag lying on a kitchen counter. Others feel tingly, as if they could feel the blood circulating through their bodies. It’s a very healthy state.

Every health and fitness expert will tell you everyone would do their bodies good if they’d spend 20-30 minutes engaged in some relaxation technique – whether hypnosis, meditation, prayer, reflecting quietly by a pond…As we know, much illness is triggered by stress. Hypnosis is a famous for stress reduction.

Lately, we’ve been going over the concepts of The Secret, and how to use Visualization and the Law of Attraction for creating a fit and trim physique. Most people with weight issues have hazy and fuzzy self-images. One thing we do is have the hypnotized client visualize him/herself thin – and you’d be amazed at how many people cannot do that – imagine themselves thin. And it’s just their imagination! It’s the first rule of manifestation: The clearer and more accurate the vision, the clearer and more precise the results. I think you can guess how important it is for us to get clear on our goals!

That’s all for now!

Hypnotically yours,
Gina Fox, CHT

Criss Angel and Matt Damon Are My Work-out Buddies (Daydreams)

matt.jpgHello again! Well I’ve been busy working out at the gym, and you’ll be glad to know I’ve discovered a new imagination tool. It helps me wile away the time while I’m running (and I use the term loosely) on the treadmill, or doing my weights. It started the other day when I was lifting weights and this gorgeous guy came around to do his workout. I couldn’t quite see his face, but from his hair, profile, and physique he looked a lot like Criss Angel – the deliciously eatable mind freak guy. So I pretended he WAS Criss Angel. Why not? It made my workout much more interesting and I actually extended my exercise time by a good half-hour! In fact, I didn’t want to leave because before I knew it, “Bill Clinton” had walked in, and so did “Oprah”, “Brad Pitt”, and “Johnny Depp”. Before I knew it I was surrounded by all these health conscious “celebrities”, and of course, in my mind, I had become one too. I was a “famous writer” inside some celebrity-magnet So-Cal gym.

I’ll tell you, I have not missed a gym day since then. Today I saw “Pitt” again, as well as “Davey Havok” from AFI, “Matt Damon” and others. I can’t wait to see who shows up tomorrow.

I’m doing well. I feel strong healthwise, and my muscles are getting toned, bringing definition to my physique.

Get your flabby thighs to the gym. I’m sure you’ll run into your own set of inspiring workout buddies. All you have to do is decide who everyone resembles, and sorry to say they won’t all be delectable dishes like Criss Angel, I have some boring celebrities come around too, like…well, to be honest I don’t know their names, but I recognize them from Lifetime movies and such. They’re just there and I can’t help who all goes to the gym. But I look forward to the powerfully fit Davey Havoks, that’s for sure.

Have fun, and use your imagination. It’s a powerful tool.

Till later!

Hypnotically yours,

The Secret – Oprah vs Rosie

I watched the View yesterday and the ladies had pretty much good things to say about The Secret, though Rosie, (and I actually like Rosie lately) kinda didn’t quite get it. Now I still haven’t seen the DVD, but being a hypnotist, I know the gist of what they are trying to say. Like attracts Like. Pretty basic.Anyway, Rosie cited the part of the movie when they apparently say look at the back of your hands, and now fold them as if you’re holding onto something with your hands, and close your eyes and imagine them wrapped around the steering wheel of the car of your dreams and you’re driving that car…Then, supposedly they show the person really driving that car, as if the car miraculously appeared in their driveway five seconds later.

She is being so unimaginatively literal, and as I’ve heard it, many of ”the secret’s” critics are doing the same thing. Like they think we expect to be answered in five minutes or something. I mean we’ve all had the experience of thinking about something – sometimes it was even years ago that we thought those things- and suddenly it’s come into our lives, seemingly from outta thin air. Sometimes we do get an answer in five minutes, sometimes it’s years away. When it’s years away it’s because we needed time to become the LIKE we are wanting to attract. James Allen, in his famous and powerful book, As a Man Thinketh, says “Man does not attract to himself that which he wants, but rather that which he is. And what he is are the things he spends his time dwelling upon.”

As you may or may not know, I go to the hospital monthly for 5-hour long IVIG infusions. I went yesterday and was talking to a darling girl who had within the past year been diagnosed with Leukemia, and a lung condition. She had a bone marrow transplant, and lung surgery, and currently has to get infusions on a daily basis. She quit work, and has spent much of this year in the hospital. She told me, “It’s kind of funny but I remember last year I was really stressed out – working fulltime, taking care of my young family, we had just bought a new home, and I was saying over and over to myself, I need a long break, where I can just stay in bed, and rest…Now look at me. My wish has come true, you could say. Be careful what you wish for!”

Now how many of us have had the same sort of wish-fulfillment – and of course it could be a positive result. I can remember when I was a small child and I’d swing a crystal in front of my little brother’s face and say, “you’re getting sleepy…” I always loved the idea of being a hypnotist. Funny thing is the idea to become a hypnotherapist came from the SUBCONCIOUS, because consciously I would’ve never guessed I would choose this career path. I mean, when I chose to leave my trustworthy social services job to open my hypnotist’s office it came as a sudden opportunity – seemingly from outta nowhere. At the time (1998) I was talking to my dear hypnotherapy instructor ( I had taken the course in 1994) and he said, “Julie (a mutual friend) wants to open a Hypnosis Center, but she wants a partner. Do you know anyone who might be interested?” I knew I did know of someone – I was certain of it, but it just wouldn’t come to me. It was that feeling on the tip of your tongue that I knew the perfect person for her. One day as I was driving down the freeway pondering this very solution, it came to me as an AHA! moment – ME! Why not me??? I was deliriously happy and shocked. What took me so long? Anyway, the rest is history, as I sit in my Hypnotist chair writing this. I’ve never been happier.

But the key is Being the LIKE that you want to attract – how many times do I have to say that, people! And the key to THAT is becoming the LIKE if you aren’t right now. It doesn’t have to be years. In my next blog I will illustrate what I mean by that exact thing – becoming the LIKE. Got to close down blog shop now, clients coming in.

Luv, Gina

Oprah’s “The Secret” Follow-Up Show

jag2.jpg I don’t know how many of you watched Oprah’s follow up show to The Secret…only two of the original panel guests returned to answer questions, and in my opinion they were the two who understood the Secret the least of all the original panel guests. I’m talking about James Arthur Ray(Arthur of the Science of Success) hereafter referred to as JAR, and the REV. Dr. Michael Beckwith (Founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center) hereafter referred to as REV. I have to say I was probably most impressed by Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup for the Soul guy) – hey Jack, how could you be too busy to make Oprah’s show, I wonder?

Anyway, Jar and Rev, while I’m sure they’re intelligent, evolved men, managed to take a fascinating premise and make it wholly drab and mundane. They pretty much kept repeating the same two commands – visualize it and act on it. Well DUH…I was not inspired.

JAR was really goofy. Some lady was having financial problems and his advice to her was – seriously, don’t get disgusted – his advice was “save, invest, cut back spending.” That’s about as life-changing as some guy saying , “Hey I invented the magic bullet for weight loss!” So Oprah has him on her show, and he says, “YOU CAN BE THIN – all you have to do is eat less, and get more exercise.” Wooo – big news there. Yeah right. (Well, I guess that’s about what Dr. Phil did in his weight loss book, eh. What a scam THAT was.)

Don’t get me wrong – I loved the first show on the secret. In fact, Jack had me get into action about changing my outlooks, and attitudes. Jack said things that were right on! He didn’t say, “Save, Invest, Cut back spending.” He would’ve said, I believe he would’ve said, “Change your vision of your relationship with money, and financial circumstances…make your vision so bright and colorful that you get emotional about it. Once we get emotional inside of new perceptions, we start recreating our thought patterns, and redefining what WE ARE LIKE….” Remember what all they said? THE SECRET is the Law of Attraction. The number one rule of that law is that LIKE attracts LIKE.

Awesome, ain’t it!

One last comment I have to Jar and Rev is that they should refrain from trying to define what GOD is in 100 words or less, and expect other people to convert. Apparently another lady was concerned that the secret may conflict with her Christianity. The Rev came up with some generic interpretation of who God is, and what He expects from us. She didn’t look convinced. Nor was I. His belief had nothing to do with hers. I would tell her, “Lady, God has given us many tools to live by. The law of attraction is a tool, just as genetics is a tool, as is astronomy, gardening, sewing, prayer, money, and everything else good.”

Here is one of several letters I got about my last “Secret” Blog – and my response:

Thank you so much for this explanation Gina.
I saw bits and pieces on CNN last night and have been searching the web for more information. I am unemployed at the moment and can’t afford to purchase the DVD
so am trying to find answers without that purchase (although once I find a job I
will buy it). I have been very discouraged in my job search and I now feel that I can go at it in a positive frame of mind instead of one that was becoming increasingly depressed. I am even applying today for a job that I don’t really have all of the background for, but know without a doubt that I can do. I had decided not to apply, but……here I go!

Thanks again,

(Name withheld by me.)

Dear (NWBM),

Thanks for commenting on my blog. I am glad I was able to provide further explanation of The Secret for you. It’s pretty powerful stuff, the Law of Attraction. Good luck on your job quest. Remember to envision yourself doing the kind of work you enjoy, have contribution for, and respect for, and fill those visions with a shower of green big money bills – and remember to say to yourself, “Yes, I CAN do this!” And believe that with all your soul!

And get detailed and colorful about the vision. Remember what Oprah’s Secret guests said, Everyone knows what they Don’t want, YOU have to envision what you DO want. Step up the way you’ve been seeing things. Remember what I said about the car? If you generally picture a used run-of-the-mill Toyota, start picturing brand new, leather-smelling Jaguars instead. Make it a new habit.

So Envision yourself perfectly groomed (maybe a new hair cut, or hair color?), perfectly prepared, positively motivated to stun your employers with a motivated on-fire attitude, performance that screams recognition…get sensual about it – hear the office sounds, feel in your heart the detailed praise you get from work well done, smell the flowers on your desk, taste the healthy brown bag lunch you packed…become emotional about it. Emotion means passion and passionate people make life happen. Don’t just do it once – make a habit of it, a new, clearer way of seeing things.

May the Force be with you!

Hypnotically yours,

Gina Fox

That’s all I have to say about this for now. But hey dear Oprah, if you have another follow up, get Jack Canfield, please!

Oprah’s Secret

jag.jpgA couple of days ago I was watching Oprah’s show on De-cluttering when she aired a clip for yesterdays show which was on: Learning The Secret to a great life. For example: making more money! Better health. Marrying the man of your dreams! “When I heard that (about the secret) it brought tears to my eyes,” Oprah said.Well, I was bummed because I wanted desperately to know the secret but would have to be at work when it aired. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I would catch a cold that very night and choose to stay home from work the next day so as to not spread my germs…and so I got to watch the show after all.

Turns out The Secret is a book/movie all about the Law of Attraction. This is what I got from the show, plus a little of my own understanding of it:

Like attracts Like.

Here is how we create what we are Like. Thoughts create pictures in our minds. What I mean is, if you think the word CAR, you don’t actually see the letters C-A-R, Rather you see a Volvo, or VW Bug, or Camaro, or whatever.

For example: Think of the word Balloon. Close your eyes and think about a balloon. What color is it? What’s the setting – a park? Circus? Birthday party? Is it laying around, floating above in the air, attached to a string? You make a unique picture from what I’d make, or your friends would make. You have a distinct and different reality from mine or anyone else’s.

Depending on your associations with various word they will have varying weights of emotion attached to it. Thoughts create emotion – or feelings. Check for any emotions that come up for the following words:

1. Rich.

2. Poor.

3. Alcoholic.

4. Healthy.

5. Crippled.

6. Loser.

7. Fat.

8. Idiot.

9. Svelte.

10. Mercedes.

11. Millionaire.

12. High Tech.

Note which words carry a higher emotional effect than the others. Did 1,4,9,10,11,12 turn you on more than the other ones gave you a knot-in-the-pit-of-your-stomach reaction, or did the negative ones scare you more than the others turned you on? It’s important to know what drives you. In other words are you attracted towards prosperity? Or are you attracted away from poverty?

When left to run amuck, feelings are more powerful than words. It’s important to know because it’s your unconscious that runs the show where feelings are concerned. In fact, we call the unconscious “the feeling mind.” Your unconscious doesn’t process negatives very well – so you may have answered ” Away from poverty” and what the unconscious hears is: “Blah, Blah Poverty.” So the picture it paints for the universe to MATCH (Like Attracts Like) is poverty.

The good news is that feelings are alter-able. We change feelings like we change into comfortable shoes at the end of the day. For example, you’re driving down the road, feeling up and positive…then suddenly THAT song comes on – you know the one…the one that you related to when you broke up with your last boyfriend. And vaboom – those uplifted spirits come crashing down, and you can barely drive because the tears are flooding your eyes. Then you get home and have a big piece of triple-layer chocolate cake, and you start feeling better, stronger, powerful again, for the moment. Then when you lay your fork down you start feeling GUILT. Why did I eat that piece of cake? I’ll never lose this extra forty pounds…Arrgh.

We can be the cause for our feelings to change. Our feelings aren’t necessarily doomed to be ruled by external stimuli. We can start by changing the internal chat we have with ourselves – the self-chats that are painting pictures of monsters holding us captive under swampy black lagoons – like that guy who dumped me may have been sent to me so I’d get to know myself in a more positive way? Could it be that I attracted insecure, self-serving morons because I was focused on the insecure, self-serving moron in myself. Now, I want to focus on my newfound strength, generosity, and nurturing qualities and attract guys who match that.

It was a good show. I have friends who have seen The Secret, and they highly recommend it. The bottom line is we have to start loving who we are now and being thankful for what we have now! And exude health, a love of fitness, appreciation for living self-satisfied lives on the learning path.

I’ll tell you my own secret as to how the Law of Attraction has become evident in my own life, in an “interesting” way. I have written a novel called, BODY FLUIDS (soon to be published) which deals with people who have HIV. The book took me 5 years to complete with research and editing and all. All my life I have been healthy – no illness. Then I write this book, and mysteriously develop an immune system problem myself. It isn’t HIV, but it’s a weakened immune system, just the same. In fact, every three weeks I have to go in and have IVIG infusions in order to support my immune function Are you thinking what I’m thinking??? I put it out there passionately and it’s come back around. I’m not the first writer to have this happen to them. Stephen King was nearly fatally struck by a vehicle on a desolate country road while he was out walking one day. In a moment before losing consciousness he saw the guy who’d hit him, and he thought, “Oh my God, I’ve been killed by one of my own characters!”

And to think my next book was going to be about Vampires!! Not anymore. Now, I’m going to write a novel about a VERY beautiful, VERY very wealthy, extremely healthy, athletic girl who always gets what she wants, and everyone loves her!

Luv ya,

Tips For Staying On the Road to Permanent Weight Loss

Mood: ReflectiveListening to: Loreena McKennitt – Live in Paris and Toronto, Disc one

So here we are, it’s the start of a new year, and we’re all brimming with self-promises to live our lives with more self-respect, more self-confidence, more self-satisfaction than years past. I am no different. Over the holidays – basically since September – I’ve put on 10 pounds. What happened in September is I caught a nasty, life-threatening jacuzzi bacterial infection. I was on big-daddy antibiotics, and rest and recuperation through November. Because I was so sick, I vacationed from the gym, and basically became very sedentary. That didn’t help, and to worsen matters, three words: Thanksgiving, Xmas, New Years. Over the past couple of weeks I’ve lost a couple of the pounds I’d put on, and starting today, I’m getting back to my workout regimen. I should be back to my pre-sedentary weight by February 10. Yes, 2007.

Remember, EXERCISE is the 2nd most crucial component to keeping the weight off. Okay, because I know you’re wondering about the other crucial components, I’ll tell you, from personal experience, what they are.

Number one: Changing Your Mind. In my world that means using hypnosis to De-hypnotize your mind from the old ways of interacting with food. It’s crucial to reprogram your mind with new, positive ways of – not just eating – but thinking of food. By reprogramming your mind you’ll stop going back to bad habits. Okay, so you’re saying, ”but you gained 10 pounds.” Well, there are various factors at work in my body. First of all, I’ve lost 200 pounds, and here is the bad news for me…you can lose the weight, but the fat cells don’t go away. They sit there waiting like evil, thirsty little sponges for the slightest opportunity to soak up fat. For the rest of my life I will be someone who gains weight more readily than someone who doesn’t have those extra fat cells just waiting. One positive is that five years ago I could’ve gained 10 pounds and it would’ve just served to depress me, and I’d gain another 10 and another 10 until I finally started a new diet. Nowadays, I get back on track easier and faster. I know I could never get the 200 lost back again. It’s not who I am anymore. Thank God. The two pounds I’ve already lost is simply due to letting go of the holiday eating. My new normal eating habits – January through October – are pretty good. But I do let myself indulge over the holidays.

Number two: Exercise. I have to get back to the gym. I love it once I fit it back into my daily routine. Also, because of my recent health issues, I have to start out slow, and work it up. Today, I’ll do about 10 minutes on the ball, 15 minutes on weights, and 10 minutes on the stationary bike. Tomorrow, and for a week, I’ll stick to that level. It won’t tax me, I’m not apt to get hurt or overdo it, and it’ll be so refreshing that I’ll probably look forward to doing more tomorrow. To me, that’s the most important thing – Wanting to do it again tomorrow. Because if I can keep working out regularly for the next 21 days, I’ll have developed a very good habit.

Number three: Good nutrition. About the second week of January I went back to my normally good eating habits – that is, getting my protein, fiber, veggies. Here is an average day’s meals for me:

Breakfast: protein shake, with flax seed, and frozen blueberries, and coffee or carb free Monster Energy drink. Snack: Tangerine, or nuts and raisins. Lunch: baked Salmon, steamed Basmati rice, salad. Dinner: stir fry veggies with chicken. Sometimes for a snack I’ll have another protein shake. Low carb and high protein. I use whey, but they say egg white protein is the best. Expensive though.

Number four – Hydration. Got to get the water in – 8 -10 glasses. Herbal teas are good. Hot or cold. I make fresh lemonade with splenda – yummy. Adding the juice of a lemon is a good way to alkalize the system, which is a boost to health.

Okay guys, let’s get back on track! Looking forward to feeling the weight melt off again!

Luv, Gina
